John 5:5, 8, and 9

(5) And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. (8) Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. (9) And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

Word of the Week

The Door of Hope Christian Church came into existence by the providence of God. It started as a weekly Bible Study with a small group of 14 students on Thursday, August 22, 1991. The Study of the Word revolutionized the lives of these who attended, so the attendees in return invited others to come to their study to receive this powerful word. As time went on, a bond began to develop among these students, and they became to see themselves as a family; a church family.

Students began to express their desire that a permanent fellowship might be established where the Word of God might be taught on a continual and uninhibited basis, so they started seeking a building in which to hold their services. Elder Michael Blue very cautiously waited for a sense of God’s direction in this new prospect. While in prayer, Elder Blue received a Word from the Lord; Revelation 3:8 – “Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” He concluded from this that God was saying to him that his ministry was about to take a new direction and dimension. And indeed, Elder Blue Ministerial outreach and opportunities did expand greatly in 1991.

After believing that he has ascertained the Will of God, Elder Blue called a meeting with his students. The 14 students along with Elder Blue entered into a covenant to become a church; elder Blue and his wife was selected as the pastors while the students were assigned to its administration staff. They then secured the place for meeting: 213 North Pine Street, Marion SC. On February 21, 1992; their first service was held and over 30 people including men, women and children joined the church.

As time went by, the Lord has added to the church in quality and quantity. Lives have been changed, bodies have been healed, and the oppressed have been set free by the power of God. A hallmark of this ministry has been the young people who have found God to be relevant. In December 1997, Elder Blue was consecrated to the bishopric. After nine years of worshipping on Pine Street in the storefront, the Lord made room for them. The Door of Hope Christian Church Worship and Ministry Center was dedicated March 17, 2001 on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The Pastors and the membership fully acknowledge that it is not only by might nor by power, but it is by God’s precious Holy Spirit.
